My Inspiration Lucille Ball
During childhood there were times when my family did not have cable in the household. I grew up watching the local Pubic Broadcasting Station and VHS’s or DVD’s. We watched the old classics such as The Beverly Hillbillies, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Andy Griffith Show and anything Red Skelton. Yet I Love Lucy and other works of Lucille Ball were my favorite. There was something about how committed she was to her craft and the way she carried herself. The Hollywood icon became an inspiration to me and is someone I have looked up to. I want to share with you how today on her birthday.
Her story was struggle from the beginning in the small town of Jamestown, New York. She had lost her father when she was three which resulted in living multiple places, dealt with self image struggles, poverty, and arthritis which held her back for a time. Even when that is where she started, Lucy kept pushing and pursuing her dreams. During her lifetime she had become an successful actress, comedian and model. She ran her production studio in 1960’s after her divorce to husband Desi Arnaz. Lucy was the fist woman to have accomplished that position of Executive Producer.
There are many reasons to why I view Lucy as my role model. Above I stated just a little part of her story for she has a lengthy biography. It is full of strength and perseverance. Besides her career, she loved everyone and tried to never judge anyone for who they are for she knew she was not perfect. I strive to be the same way as a person and in my career. That no matter where I come from it does not hold me back. Even if I have to struggle the winding roads on my path, focus on what the outcome can be. Lucy left a legacy and a large impact that I would love to leave as well one day. If I had the ability to meet her I would thank her. I would thank her for all the laughter and inspiration she has brought to so many. And that she helped me appreciate my red hair when I found it ugly for so long. Even though I was not alive when she was, Lucy has impacted my life in a positive way. Happy Birthday Lucy!
Below are pictures of my trip in 2017 to Jamestown, New York when my best friend’s and I visited the Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz Museum and Comedy Center. It was incredible and full of artifacts form her lifetime.
