My List Of Intentions

Everyone at some point has either made or started a bucket list. Writing down all the places to see or goals to have accomplished. For some reason I have never resonated with the one I had done. One thing that had been bothering me was if I said my dream place to visit is Ireland, I may only keep it as a dream and never see it. I do not want to feel in my late 80’s that I let myself down by not doing an item on the list. So I decided to throw mine out! Instead, I currently have made 5 intentions that I wish to pursue.

I intend to :

  • Pick back up hobbies

I used to have so many hobbies growing up. That by end of high school into college I stopped art and playing instruments. The only two I kept up with was reading and color guard. Recently over the few years I have brought drawing and writing in my life. I hope to shortly start publishing the books I have written since my teenage years. One hobby I want to get back in the swing with is playing instruments. As a child and upward I have played more than 5 instrument from clarinet, violin to guitar. When I became busy with school, work, theater performances and volunteering I dropped them. As of right now, I have begun playing around with my ukulele and it’s been fun re-learning what I knew ages ago.

  • Learn a language

I had learned the basics in languages such as German, French and Spanish during middle school years and part of high school. Yet I never became fluent in any of them. My intention is to learn at least one to be able to converse better. There is a part of me that wants to learn one or two my ancestors have used. My family comes from all over Europe and one day when I go I want to be able to speak and read. The one’s that stick out the most are French and Irish Gaelic. As a child many of my mom’s family used French and old Irish where some of the sayings naturally come out in my speech. To me it is more than learning a language but also feeling more connected to family.

  • Be more sustainable

Over a handful of years I have thought of ways to use less and be environmentally friendly. I have always tired to recycle and to create less waste. As of this moment there is more that I can do with the preservation of the planet. I first switched to using glass bottles and containers. It have made life easier as well as cheaper since I am not purchasing plastic. I am just reusing and cleaning one bottle. Recently I have started to collect and use metal/glass straws, bamboo items and finding more reusable bags for everyday use. I still feel I am at the beginning of creating a lifestyle change. If you have any pointers on where/ what to use that are sustainable let me know below!

  • Gear towards minimalism

I feel as if simplifying my life goes along with sustainability I had mentioned above. After college I had started to go through all that I owned and tried minimizing to an extent. There were objects and clothes at the time I hadn’t used so I donated them. Yet I still have so much in my space that I could reduce even more. I have traveled around on vacations and choir trips that I have lived out of a suitcase for a decent amount of time. Meaning that realistically I only used a small amount of clothing pieces and everyday items. Within in the last few months I have started to look over my personal items again. I think after doing a first go through then taking a break has helped me see what I use and gravitate to within what was left. Now I plan on decluttering more books, trinkets and clothing. There is apart of me that wants more experiences than items and I am sticking to that concept.

  • Travel near and far

Lastly I plan to travel around more than before. I have been all over the east coast of The United States and once of the continent to Australia. On my list of places to travel is Europe, New Zealand and more of Canada. Honestly I plan to go any and every where. I also want to incorporate day trips to destinations near me. If you cannot afford or take the time to go away then take one in your own backyard. I plan on sharing those adventures and experiences on here as well as Instagram. So be on the look out!

Overall, I believe the five intentions above seem tangible. That if I have it on my “to do list” I will check them off one by one. I do not know if I am the only one who feels a little anxious about not completing a bucket list. Maybe putting it in a different wording is helping me feel I intent to speak a new language or live out of a suitcase more often. Let me know what you think about either list. Even comment about some of your own goals or travel destinations!
