A Boat Goes Forward
10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace by Dr. Wayne Dyer is a recent book I have borrowed from my mother. I was interested to see what it was about due to I have never read any book by him. There is a chapter that has stuck out to me about dropping the past to move on. He compared our bodies to a boat. That as a boat sets sail it goes forward and leaves a wake behind. It is meant to continue on to the next stop or destination. The wake has nothing to do with where the boat is headed. Here is how he crafted his teaching.
He says that our past is nothing for us in the present time. Anything that was negative or bad that may have happened five years ago has no power over you now. Yes it had a reason for being but it should not affect the current you. As when a boat leaves a wake, so do we. Dr. Dyer states it to be a past or personal history event that we learn from. That there is no reason to attach to what was because it was a lesson or an occurrence for a brief time. Our destination will most likely not include it.
I have for a while been working on releasing past trauma and events. Attempting to go forward with the flow. Knowing I can only move ahead. For so long I have tried many ways to figure out how to free myself of the past. None have ever honestly work to a certain degree or maybe I was not ready. After reading that chapter I liked having the idea of being a boat. It helped me get a new view of releasing . I have discovered that anything I have gone through has made me a strong person. As I go on the journey of life, there will be more rough waters or passing boats. But that is all those moments are because the harsh waves will become the wake behind me. I do not need to revisit them, for they will be too far in the wake to get to. They will not stay in front of me. Overall this as an interesting read and wanted to share this with you to see if it could help anyone who needs it.
