How I Stay Hydrated

With it being summer, I wanted to share with you how I keep my body hydrated. My drink of choice has always been water. Of course there were times I would to drink plenty of sodas and sugary juices. Over the years I have cut out drinking both of them and occasionally will I drink ginger ale. I have as well taken down my caffeine intake of coffee and tea. Which is the hardest for me since my body so often runs on both beverages.

Just drinking plain water can be boring at times. So I try to spice it up with throwing in fruits and herbs. The two I most frequently use are lemon and mint. Some times I have them separately or mix them together. Both have a decent amount of healthy impacts to them.

Benefits

Lemon:

  • Good for hydration

  • Improves skin

  • Aids digestion

  • Good for the heart

  • Has Vitamin C, Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium

Mint:

  • Soothes the stomach

  • Reduces stress

  • Can improve digestion and help with IBS

  • Improves brain function, focus and mental awareness

  • Has a good source of Iron, Vitamin C, and Calcium

I find that both of them are a good mix together where some of the health benefits go hand in hand. As a child my great uncle told everyone his secret of living to living long. He said that it was because my great aunt everyday would give him warm lemon water he made it to 106. I do not know for sure if that was his real secret to living long but I will try to follow in his footsteps. When I drink water with either, I do feel more energized, grounded and tend to bloat less. I enjoy the natural clean taste they add to the water. Let me know of other ways that you use to stay hydrated all year round!
