Hickory Run State Park
Recently, I went on a road trip with my sister and my brother-in-law to the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. We had stayed near Lake Harmony in Carbon County but had adventured around the surrounding area. Hickory Run State Park had been our first day filled of hiking and taking in so much scenery.
The park contains a handful of trails, water areas, as well as the epic Boulder Field. On the way to the entrance towards the boulders, you can park and take a short hike to Hawk Falls. There were plenty points of interest to take photos of. Such as tree cover walkways and crossing a bridge leading to the water fall. I found the Hawk Falls to be a small little beauty that is picturesque. We had maneuvered both to the top and bottom of the fall loving every second of it. It is a little bit of an up hill hike but it is worth it for all the nature around you. There is also the Orchard trail connected to Hawk Falls trail we went on. I had found so many patches of mushrooms that called to be photographed, one is pictured in the slideshow.
Once back in the car, we kept venturing in to find the field containing rocks that have broken down over thousands of years since the Ice Age. We had found a lake about half way into the drive and pulled over to see it. I suggest if you ever go to the park to take a moment at the lake and enjoy the scene laid out in front of you.
After driving a few miles and feeling as if going back in time, we approached the large area of Boulder Field. This was a must see on my list and I am so glad we went. The amount of rock formations there, I could not put a number on them. I would say hundreds of thousands, all different sizes that you can walk across! While my sister stayed terrified of the spiders, I decided to go out and climb. I am not sure how far out I went, the picture can show me in the distance from the parking lot entrance. We were the only ones at there, making it a meditative experience in the quiet field. It had dumb founded me that this place has been here for so long and the rocks not having been touched, fell apart by the force of nature was mind boggling.
I recommend if you want to see a wonderful outdoor location or place to hike, add Hickory State Park to your list. You can spend a whole day here adventuring inside of it. Look out for a new post on Friday, where we went to see another outstanding location, Lehigh Valley Gorge!
